This is a list of countries by credit rating, showing long-term foreign currency credit ratings for sovereign bonds as reported by the three major credit rating agencies: Standard & Poor's, Fitch, and Moody's. The ratings of DBRS, Scope, China Chengxin, Dagong and JCR are also included. The list also includes all country subdivisions issuing sovereign bonds, but it excludes regions, provinces and municipalities issuing sub-sovereign bonds. Credit Rating Agencies of Different Countries The main function of the credit rating agencies of different countries is assessing the credit worthiness of companies, non-profit organisations or the government. List of Countries with Highest Credit Ratings. The highest credit rating is a AAA rating with ‘stable outlook’. A AAA credit rating implies there is no remote chance of default on government debt. A negative AAA credit rating implies there is a chance of downgrading the debt to AA. There are three main credit agencies: S&P, Moody’s and Fitch.
